The Global Lighting Forum is a forum of peak industry lighting organisations from around the world representing over 5,000 lighting manufacturers and US$50 billion annual sales. Established in 2007, it is represented in various regions by the following regional associations:

The GLF promotes the use of sustainable, energy efficient lighting solutions while maintaining and improving the quality of lighting. The GLF unites on a global level the leading national and regional industry associations for lighting technology. GLF functions as a forum for exchange and formulation of technical and policy information and is a recognized authority on issues of concern to the global lighting industry.

The Global Lighting Forum:

On the 13 October 2010, at its 4th Meeting in Shenzhen, China, the Global Lighting Forum (GLF) also held the inaugural meeting of its LED Working Group, an initiative to co-ordinate and to promote the technology at a global level in order to accelerate the uptake of LED lighting.
The GLF’s Chairman, Mr Jan Denneman, said: ‘The world will witness a revolution in lighting that will help reduce energy consumption while enabling new lighting experiences to be developed’. (Press Release: “Global Lighting Industry Announces Major Leadership Role in LED Lighting”)
Immediate priorities for the GLF include:

liaising with stakeholders, including governments and international organisations, to ensure that the quality of LED products provide consumers with a good experience |

assisting with international standards development and encouraging the harmonisation of standards in different regions of the world
|
| • |
producing educational material on solid state lighting, including the development of best practice guides and a guide to solid state lighting nomenclature
