According to Article 7 of EU Ecolabel Regulation (Following consultation of the EU Ecolabelling Board the Commission, Member States competent bodies and other stakeholders may initiate and lead the development or revision of EU Ecolabel criteria) this study will be carried out for the first time by a stakeholder consortium, led by the European Lamp Companies Federation (ELC) and composed by Industry, NGOs and associations, in close collaboration with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission in Ispra and Seville and the European Commission's Directorate General for Environment.
The criteria will be set in a transparent, science based and workable manner. Industry involvement is necessary in the criteria setting process in order to ensure the workability and the involvement of technical expertise. As result we will have user-friendly and harmonized criteria for Ecolabel and GPP. These criteria will aim in particular at promoting the reduction of environmental damage or risks related to the use of energy; the criteria will also encourage the implementation of best practice (optimal environmental use) and enhance consumers' environmental awareness. The criteria will be set at levels that promote the labelling of light sources that are produced with low environmental impact.
